On Show

2003 has been an incredibly successful year for our stud. Firstly, Carlton bulls, Winsome and Willaroy, took out both the Senior and Junior Championships at the Naracoorte Bull Sale.

A couple of months later, the ultimate feather in the Carlton cap came with Carlton Winnathie taking out the Grand Champion and the Macquarie Williams trophy at the National Shorthorn Bull Show & Sale (2003). In only 7 years of competition at the largest and premier Shorthorn show in Australia, Carlton is thrilled to have won the highest accolade awarded at Dubbo. This significant win was made even more special by the fact it was the first time a SA stud had brought home the top award in the 44 year history of the event.

Other highlights of our successes in the showring include:

  • Junior Champion Bull, Carlton Ulysses, Dubbo National Bull Show & Sale (2001)
  • Senior Champion Bull, Carlton TrailBlazer, Royal Adelaide Show (2000)
  • Senior Reserve Champion Bull, Carlton TrailBlazer, Royal Melbourne Show (2000)
  • Senior and Reserve Champions and runner up, SA Heifer Expo (2001) and several class winners
  • Junior Champion Female, Carlton Goddess, Royal Adelaide Show
  • Reserve Junior Champion, SA Heifer Expo (1999)

These results are testament to the integrity of our breeding plan that aims for high performance, quality cattle.

Shorthorn Feature Breed

Judging on 30th August

We expect many Shorthorn entrants this year from all over Australia, as Shorthorn is the feature breed. This is an excellent opportunity for our stud to compare our cattle with interstate studs.
Carlton will offer the first preview of exciting, new progeny. The team of 7 young animals will feature offspring of outstanding sire Broome Fugitive, purchased by our stud after winning the Junior Bull Championship at the Royal Adelaide two years ago. We will also exhibit for the first time, the calves of our WA Trevino Stud cows, bought at the end of 2001.

Look out for three sons and daughters of outstanding bull, Carlton Trailblazer, featuring in the sire’s progeny class.

SA Junior Heifer Expo 2003

14 - 17 July 2003

This year saw our stud continue the tradition of offering young cattle enthusiasts the opportunity to improve their handling and industry skills at the largest heifer expo in the southern hemisphere.
Most of our stud’s previous representatives were back for another year of competition. Their continuing commitment and motivation was combined with an extra 12 months of maturity, strength and knowledge of what it takes to prepare their heifers and themselves for competition. 9 handlers entered 9 Carlton heifers.

Several of the team members, handlers and heifers, received placings and ribbons. A special mention of outstanding performances by Ashlee Oldfield and Tahlia Papini.

  • Tahlia won Sub Intermediate Champion Handler
  • Ashlee came 2nd in the National Bank Trophy

Highlights of our successes in the showring include:

  • Junior Champion Bull, Carlton Ulysses, Dubbo National Bull Sales (2001)
  • Senior and Reserve Champion, SA Heifer Expo (2001) and several class winners
  • Junior Champion Female, Carlton Goddess, Royal Adelaide Show
  • Reserve Junior Champion, SA Heifer Expo (1999)
